ASME Affinity Communities are comprised of several different areas. These include

• Affinity Groups – Special interest groups which cross technical and geographic boundaries.
  • Self formed by groups of members
  • Formation sponsored by ASME governance units

• Online Communities – Ad hoc groups meeting online for networking or knowledge creation that have not yet petitioned to become an affinity group.
